PRESIDENTS DAY JUNE 20TH 2015
The club and bowling president for 2015 is Adrian Hinchcliffe.
Adrian and his wife Barbara (pictured below) have been members of the club for
more years than they would like to remember, in fact when they became members
the club was then known as ‘St Leonards Institute’.
The bowling competition started at 1 o’clock and the bowlers had to don their waterproofs due to the inclement weather, but thankfully by the time the finals were due to start the sun decided to come out and the finalist were able to remove their waterproofs and play in clothing more fitting for a summer’s day.
The ladies finalists were Julie Beesley and Jennifer Iddon (the president’s daughter) this was a tightly fought competition but in the end Julie was the eventual winner.
The men’s finalists were Neil Roberts and Sam Patterson, again another closely fought match which saw Neil just coming out on top.
The evening entertainment was provided by Andie Dee – Guitar girl (pictured below)
Adrian would like to take this opportunity to thank the bowling committee, the caterers for an excellent buffet
and anyone else who contributed to making his president’s day a truly memorable one.
Our President for 2014 is Mr Alan Heaton and his chosen charity

Everyone’s a winner
Members, their guests and visitors will be delighted to know that something has been done
about the dreadful state of the club’s car park. No longer will anyone risk stepping out of their car
ankle deep into a grimy puddle. Thanks to a lottery grant from Sport England’s, Inspired Facilities programme, plans are now under way to resurface the whole car park site and install good drainage.
Additionally, our bowling members can enjoy bowling after dark following the
installation of new floodlights, also financed by the same lottery grant.
The application, made in March this year, has gained us a sum in excess of £47,000 –
a figure which with our limited resources we could never have dreamt of raising from members only.
We have undertaken several community projects as a condition of earning this grant, and the
first of these happened on 29 September when we ran a fun bowling day for non-bowlers as well as
our own bowling members. So, look out for similar events in the future, and whether bowling is for
you or not, the whole community is a winner. So, when you tear up your losing lottery ticket next Saturday, just remember that one of the good causes you have supported is your own local community. Well done everyone.
Peter Bright - Chairman
